Worship

Leading people to know, love & serve Jesus.

The vision for Reliance Worship is to worship God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. As a ministry, we seek to do this by:

1. Shepherding people to engage with God through music. As we sing, we are doing what God’s Word says and acknowledging the presence of God in the gathered Body of Christ.

  • “Address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” — Ephesians 5:19
  • “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!” — Psalm 34:3
  • “I will sing aloud of your steadfast love.” — Psalm 59:16
  • “They shall sing of the ways of the Lord.” — Psalm 138:5

2. Fostering unity while stewarding diversity. Reliance Worship seeks to reflect the diversity in the Church at large, bringing together different musical styles and ecclesiastical backgrounds in one unified vision and purpose.

  • “For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body—so also is Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 12:12
  • “And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation.” — Revelation 5:9
  • “Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” — Ephesians 4:1-3

3. Enriching hearts and minds with theology through song. We are committed to leading times of singing as teachers of the Word toward spiritual formation.

  • “Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” — Colossians 3:16
  • “My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right.” — Psalm 119:172

4. Being faithful with our giftings. We seek ways to grow as apprentices of Christ, servant-leaders, musicians, and vocalists.

  • “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” — Colossians 2:6
  • “Sing a new song to him; play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.” — Psalm 33:3
  • “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.” — 1 Corinthians 3:10

5. Raising and equipping servants through discipleship. We actively seek the heart of Christ on how to encourage and equip fellow servants of all ages to grow spiritually and musically.

  • “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:19-20
  • “… to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.” — Ephesians 4:12-13

6. Seeking to be led by the Holy Spirit. We steward the time God has given us towards worship through singing while staying attuned to the work of the Spirit in our gatherings.

  • “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24
  • “For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh…” — Philippians 3:3
  • “I will even pour out my Spirit on my servants in those days, both men and women and they will prophesy.” — Acts 2:18

7. Glorifying God in all things.

  • “Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” — Ephesians 3:20-21
  • “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” — 1 Peter 4:10

“A faithful worship leader magnifies the greatness of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit by skillfully combining God’s Word with music, thereby motivating the gathered church to proclaim the gospel, to cherish God’s presence, and to live for God’s glory.”
– Bob Kauflin

The Songs We Sing

The songs we sing at Reliance Church are chosen from an extensively reviewed bank of “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.” We prayerfully select songs that are accessible for congregational singing in partnership with pastoral leadership that align with Biblical theology and the doctrinal statements of Reliance Church. Beyond being songs we like to listen to, these songs serve to, as we sing them in faith together, remind us of who God is, what He has done, and what believers are called to do in response to the Gospel.

Worship Director

FAITH WAKE

Faith is a gifted graphic designer, artist, musician and serves as the Worship Director here at Reliance. Born into a ministry family, Faith grew up as a Third Culture Kid in California, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates, gleaning from the “ins and outs” of ministry in different cultural and denominational contexts. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Theology and is a perpetual student of God’s presence and leading in the life of His Church.

Faith and her husband Thales have a heart for the global Church, spiritual formation/discipleship, and Christic artists and their prophetic voice in the world. They spend their days making music and raising their son Thomas, all while loving Jesus, people, and single-origin coffee.

As Reliance Church has become home, she hopes that this community further embodies the Gospel of Jesus by the power of the Spirit and to the glory of God alone.

What is your role at Reliance Church?
Worship Director

Describe your job in five words?
Visual storytelling to embodied presence

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My parents let me dream big: a scientist, journalist/writer, lawyer, doctor, singer, actor, and teacher.

Coffee, Tea, or Soda?
Coffee always—a Chemex or a cortado. Yorkshire Gold Tea when I’m out of coffee.

Go-to worship song?
My go-to song is a revolving door. At the moment, because I’m always singing them to my son, it’s “I Belong to Jesus (Dylan’s Song)” by Brooke Ligertwood, “Canvas and Clay” by Pat Barrett, and the hymn “He Will Hold Me Fast.”

Who has had the most influence in your spiritual life?
My parents, Thales, Krista Rull, and Haley Montgomery Dall.

Food you can’t live without?
Rice—the foundation of every great dish.

Which Bible character would you most likely to be best friends with?
I would roll deep with David because of all the honest psalms; Thomas because doubt is a friend of faith; and Priscilla because we love a theologically-versed sister.

Favorite Quote of all time?
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” — Augustine, Confessions

What is your hope for Reliance Church?
May we daily be transformed by the Gospel, letting the life of Christ be lived through us by the power of the Spirit and to the glory of God. May we sing more, prioritize Presence, and be known by our love for one another and our city.
